The Vatican City, officially known as the State of the Vatican City, is an independent city-state enclaved within Rome, Italy. It is the smallest sovereign state in the world, with an area of approximately 44 hectares (110 acres) and a population of around 800 people.

The history of the Vatican City can be traced back to the early days of Christianity, when St. Peter was crucified and buried on the Vatican Hill in 64 AD.
