Let’s talk about the tow trucks from the original Mad Max (1979), since they’re distinct from the Snake Truck and set the tone for the series. Early in the film, during the opening chase with the Nightrider, you see a pair of tow trucks that belong to Johnny the Boy’s gang. Here’s the scoop:

• Base Vehicle: These are modified  F-350s—big, burly Australian right-hand-drive trucks from the mid-’70s. They’re not as tricked out as later Mad Max vehicles, but they’ve got that raw, utilitarian edge. One’s a flatbed, the other’s got a standard tow rig with a hook and chain.
• Appearance: They’re beat-up and functional, painted in faded industrial colors (one’s a muted yellow, the other’s a dingy white). No crazy spikes or guns yet—this is pre-apocalypse, so they’re still grounded in reality, just with a touch of outlaw grime. Think rust, dents, and a “don’t mess with me” attitude.
• Role: They show up when Johnny and his crew try to salvage the Nightrider’s wrecked Holden Monaro after Max forces it into a crash. The Main Force Patrol (MFP) intercepts them, and the trucks get abandoned as the cops close in. They’re not action stars like the Snake Truck—just background muscle showing the gang’s scrappy resourcefulness.
• Significance: These trucks hint at the world sliding into chaos. They’re working vehicles turned to criminal use, foreshadowing the full-on wasteland scavengers of later films.
