Rocky is an American sports drama film starring Sylvester Stallone as boxer Rocky Balboa. Production was organized and supervised by producers Irwin Winkler, Robert Chartoff and their company Chartoff-Winkler Productions, and John Evildsen was hired to direct the film from a script by Stallone. Other actors involved in the film include Talia Shire, Bert Young, Carl Weathers as Apollo Creed, Burgess Meredith, and others.

The film's first theatrical release took place on November 21, 1976, in New York City, and its full theatrical release in the United States began on December 3 of that year.
