Spawn is a superhero from the monthly comic book of the same name published by Image Comics. Image created by Todd McFarlane. The character first appeared in Spawn #1 (May 1992). Spawn was ranked #60 in Wizard Magazine's Top 200 Comic Book Characters of All Time, #50 in Empire magazine's The 50 Greatest Comic Book Characters, and was also #36 in IGN's Top 100 Comic Book Heroes in 2011.
Al Simmons (eng. Albert Francis "Al" Simmons), a CIA agent, killed by his own boss, on the orders of Satan, went to hell. To see his wife one last time, he made a deal with the demon Malbolgia and became the immortal "Hellspawn". Spawn tried to maintain his humanity while simultaneously trying to find a way to break out of Malbolgia's control and fighting against various opponents (both supernatural beings and representatives of the criminal underworld).
