6k years ago Skull escaped Chaife's cauldron when it exploded as Chaife"s fires surged out of his control . After many years Chaife was finally able to put out all the rouge fires by eliminating some if his own he realized Skull was no longer in the cauldron and set off in search of his lost skull. .Each year that passed and still no skull caused Chaife's anger to burn driving him to search longer and harder driven finally by his only thought to return his lost Skull to the cauldron he searched never stopping .

Skull lonely in his isolated existence and tired of running and hiding enlisted the help of a shape shifter and a skinwalker to watch over him one month of every year in October so he can drink and be merry without looking over his shoulder and fleeing day after day . Skulls shifter taking on any shape and the skinwalker donning any skin can safely whisk him away when ever Chaife 's search brings him close and so allows Skull 31 days out of each year to live among others both supernatural and human in moderate safety from being returned to the cauldron and re lighting the fires that would hold him forever.
