the famous monster gorgon medusa, killed by the ancient greek hero perseus. the severed head of the monster medusa was considered a powerful amulet in ancient era, which perseus gave to the goddess athena to position it on her zeus' shield: greeks and romans used to represent medusa head on shields and armours, in order to protect warriors and soldiers during combat.
