Dachshunds are also known as sausage dogs. They are long-bodied, broad-chested, flat-bellied, active, sturdy dogs with very short limbs. They give this breed a unique and intelligent appearance. The head is elongated, the eyes are slightly bulging, the muzzle is long with strong jaws and extremely sharp teeth. The eyes are oval, dark red or dark brown, very active and friendly. The ears are quite flexible and always hang down on both sides of the cheeks. The coat of the short-haired dog is smooth, shiny and uniform.
