akinak is a short iron sword used by the scythians until the v century. in addition to the scythians, the akinaks were also used by the tribes of persians, saks, argipeans and massagets.

akinak usually has a length of 35-45 cm and a double-edged blade, the hilt did not have any universal design-the guard could be lobed with a hilt like a bollock dagger, or the pommel could be divided in shape, or in the form of an "antenna". most often, akinaks were forged entirely from iron.
