ABOUT THE PROJECT

Cleo Entertainment is an indie game studio developing a fantasy extraction RPG with a unique twist built in Unreal Engine 5. The game features a dark fantasy aesthetic with Arcane/painterly influences, deep character customization, and a fresh take on the extraction genre that sets it apart from anything currently on the market.

This is a ground-floor opportunity. We're not just hiring a programmer; we're bringing on a core team member with a real stake in what we're building.

THE ROLE

As Lead Programmer, you'll own the technical foundation of the game. You'll be making architecture decisions, building out core systems, and setting the standard for how we write code. You'll work closely with the creative director and lead artist to bring the game's vision to life on UE5.

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Architect and build core gameplay systems (combat, player controller, inventory, character customization)

- Design and implement multiplayer networking using Unreal's replication framework and online subsystems

- Build and manage extraction loop systems (session handling, player sync, loot, death/extraction states)

- Establish and maintain codebase structure and standards for the team

- Collaborate with art and design to integrate assets and systems seamlessly in UE5

- Optimize performance across gameplay, rendering pipeline, and networking

- Leverage UE5 features including Nanite, Lumen, and the Gameplay Ability System (GAS) where applicable

- Help define and execute the technical roadmap alongside leadership

REQUIREMENTS

- Strong, demonstrable experience building games in Unreal Engine 5 (C++ and/or Blueprints)

- Hands-on experience with UE5 multiplayer networking (replication, RPC, online subsystems)

- Solid understanding of the Gameplay Ability System (GAS)

- Experience with isometric or action RPG game systems (combat, AI, inventory, etc.)

- Comfortable working in a small team environment where ownership and initiative matter

- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate remotely

NICE TO HAVE

- Experience with extraction or PvP game design specifically

- Shipped multiplayer title(s) you can speak to in depth

- Experience with Dedicated Server setup in UE5

- Familiarity with EOS (Epic Online Services) or similar backend solutions

- Experience with UE5's Enhanced Input System and Modular Gameplay framework

- Comfortable working with both C++ and Blueprints depending on context

COMPENSATION

Compensation is flexible and structured around what works best for you and the project. Options include revenue share **** to product launch, equity eligibility upon going full time, full time salary, or a combination of the above. We're open to discussing what makes the most sense depending on your situation and level of involvement.
