peri bacaları (literally “fairy chimneys”) are one of the examples of natural wonders in turkey. they are found in a region called “cappadocia” which includes such turkish cities as aksaray, nevşehir, niğde, kırşehir, and kayseri. these fairy chimneys are found in ürgüp and selimiye village to be more specific. basaltic and andesite stones were blown out during volcanic eruptions in the area. then thin material called “tuff” are corroded with rivers and rain water throughout ages. however, tuff structures under these heavy rocs remained, which gave peri bacaları its current shape.
