boleadoras, also known as bolas (spanish term for balls), were a type of used by the south american indians to hunt animals. bolas were also used by gauchos (south american cowboys) to catch running cattle. the consisted of two or more round stones **** to a leather cord, which was swinged and thrown at the target prey just like a lasso.
the model's boleadoras are two of a set of three bolas found in the southern region of uruguay. this area was inhabited for centuries by a large population of hunter-gatherer, aboriginal people called the charrúa, who also used such as boleadoras to hunt. so it is highly likely that this model's bolas belonged to such population.
