bogdan or bohdan - is a slavic masculine name common among eastern slavs and romanians. it is derived from the slavic words bog/boh, meaning \"god\", and dan, meaning \"given\". the name can also be a surname, a case more common in the central europe and among the southern slavs. the name appears to be an early calque from byzantine ???????? with the same meaning.
