Meisuke Nueno (鵺野鳴介, Nueno Meisuke), also known as Nūbē (ぬ～べ～), is the titular protagonist of Hell Teacher: Jigoku Sensei Nube series. He is a teacher with the ability to exorcise spirits in Japan. He is sent to an elementary school which is attacked by spiritual beings, evil ghosts or yokai.

Nube is a young man wearing a pitch black suit with a white shirt and a black glove on his left hand. He has red eyes, short black hair and thick shaggy eyebrows. When he removes his black glove, it reveals a malformed, possessed hand with long black nails.

In his spiritual body form as Akira Hinokami, Nube sheds his goofy teacher look for an younger appearance based on his childhood self, where he wears a plain t-shirt and short pants in this form.

Nube is a nice, cheerful and careful man, who loves children and has a spirit of self-sacrifice. Normally, he looks clumsy and is a bit of a screw-up. Also, he can be sloppy with money. He sometimes shows a remarkably mature mindset and is a brave, benevolent and skilled mentor. When his students attacked by evil spirits, he will risk his life for protect them and shows incredible psychic ability, it will destroy the evils.

He doesn't take money for exorcism, and doesn't have much money. Also he has made spirit's offerings at his own expense, Plus he likes to gamble called pachinko, and has a habit of buying meals for his students, which makes his standard of living worse.

Despite his kindness, it's also shown that Nube has a dark side. When Nube tried to save Tamamo's life, the Golden Nine-Tailed Kitsune give Nube a trial to test his heart. In the trial, Nube was sent into a illusion world where his students would no longer cares about him and were attracted to a new exorcist teacher. Nube was angered at the students and killed that teacher out of jealousy. The Golden Nine-Tailed Kitsune declared Nube failed the trial and described that he is no different than those selfish humans who only cares about themselves, claiming that he's only pretending to be a kind teacher to hide his ugly side from the students.

Unlike the clumsy and perverted Nube, Akira Hinokami is serious, stoic, and radiates absolute authority towards his students under the excuse of him being older than them and thus more experienced in yokai-related knowledge.
