Description
spacecraft, mars, perseveranceperseverance is a 2300 pound (1043 kg) mars rover.
perseverance's sample handling arm consists of a pair of components: *** carousel and adaptive caching assembly, which will be used to collect, protect and return these dust and rock samples to scientists. *** carousel consists of nine bits that the rover will use to drill into the ground, pull samples and pass them to the rover interior for analysis through an adaptive buffer device. the system has seven motors and a total of 3000 parts and is responsible for storing and evaluating rock and dust samples. [6]
there are five imaging tools installed on the will: first, the supercam on the mast head (in the large circular opening), and then two mastcam-z navigation cameras in the gray box below the mast. lasers, spectrometers, and supercam imagers will be used to examine martian rocks and soil for organic compounds related to the red planet's previous life. two high-resolution mastcam-z cameras can work with multispectral stereo imaging instruments to enhance the endurance rover's ability to travel and core sample. [8]
one of the 10 scientific devices of the probe is called "moxie", which can produce oxygen from the thin, carbon dioxide dominated atmosphere of mars. once these devices are expanded, they can help future astronauts explore mars, which is an important space goal to be achieved by nasa in the 1930s.
in addition, a small 1.8 kg helicopter named ingenuity will be suspended in the belly of will and arrive at mars. once the will finds a suitable position, ingenuity will separate and conduct several test flights. this will be the first time that a rotorcraft flies in an extraterrestrial sphere. nasa officials said that if ingenuity helicopters are successful in flight, helicopters may often be used as "scouts" for probes or astronauts in future missions to mars. rotorcraft can carry out a lot of scientific investigation, exploring difficult to reach areas, such as caves and cliffs. at the same time, ingenuity helicopter is equipped with a camera system, which can take pictures of mars surface structure with important research value [5].
