Description

The Swedish Vallhund is an ancient breed of dog from Sweden dating back to the 8th or 9th century. It originated in Västergötland, south of Lake Vänern. The Swedish Vallhund may have been brought to Britain by the Vikings over 1,000 years ago, and was bred by Swedish breeders for herding livestock on farms and ranches, guarding, and rat hunting. The breed was introduced to the United States and became more popular in Europe, and was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 2007.
