However, during World War II, Busan suffered significant damage as a result of Japanese bombing raids.

After the war, Busan became a key point of entry for refugees fleeing from North Korea, and it played a crucial role in the Korean War (1950-1953), serving as a major supply and logistics base for the United Nations forces.
