Description
PFM-1 is an anti-personnel high-explosive mine of pressure action, the analogue of which is the American mine BLU-43 "Dragontooth" ("dragon's tooth"). The Soviet Petal is almost identical to its American counterpart, which was not officially adopted by the United States, but was actively used in the Vietnam War. On the PFM-1 armament in the USSR in the mid or late 70s.This Soviet anti-personnel mine exists in two versions: PFM-1 and PFM-1C. The first standard version of the mine ( PFM-1) it does not self-destruct, and the PFM-1C self-destructs after 1-40 hours from the moment of installation (the self-destruct time may depend on the ambient temperature).
The petal is installed only by remote mining, Soviet complexes PKM-1 "Wind-M", VSM-1, UMZ, MLRS and AFM were used for this. These complexes allow you to mine huge areas quickly, while not putting fighters at risk.
The PFM-1 device is quite uncomplicated. The case itself is made of lightweight polyethylene with metal parts of the fuse, the total weight of one mine is only 80 grams of which 40 grams is an explosive. The name petal is not given to this anti-personnel mine for nothing, its shape is made of just two petals, one of which contains an explosive substance, and the other serves as a counterweight and stabilizer for planning from the air to prevent an explosion when hitting the ground.
